‘Ranting little troll…’

So it’s the morning after the night before, the night before that witnessed ‘The Great Facebook Debate’ led by BIMA’s Paul Walsh.

I’m not going to formerly write up the event, there were plenty of bloggers around who I’m sure will do that far better than I.

Just to say well done to Paul for creating an innovative and genuinely stimulating evening built around good speakers and some provocative motions - ‘This house believes you should ignore friend invites from your boss’ for instance!

For me there were a number of key phrases/comments that stood out, as follows:

Social Communities are based around ‘Social Objects’, not vice versa
Today we have ‘Cheap Easy Global Media’
Markets are conversations
(not a new thought but good to be reminded)
Social Graph (the phrase du jour)
Liberty is not licensed
Outcomes based, not time based
(as a mantra for business)
Open/Closed is a political bargain - it’s all a compromise (and neither is right or wrong, it’s about choice)
Poking is grooming (think chimps in the jungle…)
Single identity (just be yourself, not multiple personalities based on context - stop being schizophrenic)
BOSS stands for bag of S**t - copywrite Mr Sam Sethi.

And finally, my personal favourite…

’suppose you’re a ranting little troll of a blogger’ - (great phrase, great image).
